Rain transforms the world outside, so rainy day walks or hikes are an experience to be savored. Take the stance of many devoted runners, who are fond of saying that there is no bad running weather, only poorly prepared runners. Get yourself a waterproof outfit and venture out. Let wet-weather birdcalls enchant you, and allow fresh, clean smells to energize you. If a trail has a thick canopy of trees overhead, the rain sometimes seems like a mist.

Now that it appeared that our wet weather was with us for the week, we had to get a little more serious to find something everyone would enjoy. Luckily we had internet access at the cabin through a cell phone hookup (I was fully prepared to find a local web access). We first searched under some nearby towns. It was amazing to see how many festivals and fairs were going on.

To make the squares that would create a comic strip storyboard, fold the paper half-way lengthwise and then in thirds width-wise. Now you have six rectangles for the storyboard. You can also fold the paper in half for just two comic strip boxes, or in quarters if that's what the children want to do. Any words for the cartoon strip can go in the bottom part of each rectangle, or older children can draw a speech bubbles and have their characters words in the bubbles.

Indoor obstacle courses are also a lot of fun on a rainy day. Set up an obstacle course in your living room or basement for your preschooler to maneuver through. You may want to set up a row of chairs to crawl through, a small table to crawl under, and a stack of clothes or stuffed animals to go over. Place several toys in a zig-zag pattern for your child to move around and a box he must throw a ball into.

We all know this one. It was so much fun growing up and making a tent out of blankets and chairs. However now, you can buy those indoor pop tents for the kids that fit right in your living room. These are nice! The old fashioned way all you'll need is a couple of chairs and a blanket. My toddler will play for hours like this. Make a "pretend campfire". Shut off the televisions. Fun activities for toddlers can take place in their imaginations.

If nothing else works, there is a decent amount of great shopping around about Seattle that will get you off the streets and into the keeps. While I love shopping, unless we are talking small local holds, I are able to do that for the most part at home. I love visiting the local shops and galleries and obtaining pieces of pottery or art by local artists, other than that, I have malls and chain outlets at home and have rarely found something new and rare at the holds that I couldn't have discovered at home or on the internet.

Aquaduck is a tour on an amphibious bus that drives into the water and takes you around on a quick tour through the canals and broadwater. Young kids, in particular, enjoy the duck quackers! This is a rather unusual cruise where the kids will be entertained on one level, whilst Mum and Dad can get to see a bit of the area! The tour picks you up from either your Surfers
